So, like I said, I got the Wait EP by the Polyphonic Spree from iTunes yesterday. It’s only 5 tracks, but I’m fairly impressed. It’s got 2 tracks from their next album, The Fragile Army, and 3 covers…Psychedelic Furs, Nirvana (as posted earlier), and a cover (really just a remake) of Tripping Daisy’s Sonic Bloom.

Bloom was one of my favorite tracks from the Jesus Hits Like An Atom Bomb album. It’s a little more tame, almost like a grown up version of the same song.

The Lithium cover garnered 5-stars by me. Excellent rendition.

The Furs cover (Love My Way) is the worst on the EP. I never really liked that song to begin with. In fact, it’s a bit of a nails-on-a-chalkboard song for me. The Spree make it less so, but I’ve been skipping over it.

The 2 songs from The Fragile Army are very good. They sound very familiar, though. At first, I thought they were all covers. “I’m Calling”, the last track, sounds especially familiar for some reason. What’s funny is that they have a very Tripping Daisy feel to them. But it’s like a more grown up feel. The various instruments might be the key.

Anyway, good stuff. I miss my Daisy concerts. In college, we’d catch them every time they were in town. Good memories of fun times. Laura took me to a Spree Christmas show a couple of years ago and it had the same energy.

DiggNation touched on DRM in the latest episode (#61). Kevin brought up a good idea. Adding a fingerprint to each file that basically contains a username/password. To listen to a password-protected file, you have to enter the username/password. Simple. You could change the u/p after you’ve entered it in order to get all of your files on the same u/p combination. You could potentially still share the files, I guess, but the idea is not bad.
